about

As with many of my songs, Sleepwalking is about finding solace and healing in nature.

In Sleepwalking, I step in to my ancestor, Edith’s shoes. Edith was a mistress of King Henry I. I imagine finding solace in the beautiful Cumbrian scenery, walking to find freedom from the male dominated environment of a King’s castle, with it’s long corridors and ‘chambers of fire and song’.

I'm drawn to my captor, my lover, but as a religious woman I also despise him, resolving to atone my sins and haunt him in death.

Sleepwalking conjures up an English bucolic balm with finger-picked psychedelia and dreamy, celestial vocals wandering strange yet soothing.

lyrics

The pleasure house stood by the lake
A jewel lit up a night
A smoker in darkness
inhaling me inside
Pitching up the path
Blindfolded
By the dark

Felty wet my footsteps
As the mist creeps in
i stumble i fall
limb before limb
She lays her blanket down
The November Rain
Settles without a sound

He gives me his riches
He calls himself my king
I’m drawn to the bed he’s made
I’m sleepwalking
Sleep walking
Sleep walking
Sleep walking
I’m sleepwalking
For I am Edith
concubine
I walk away these sins of mine

Rooms heavy with history
dead men on the wall
Echoing long corridors
Watching for my fall
in their chambers,
of fire and song
I don’t belong

I’m cleansed by the moon
for my sins atoned
I’ll be forever walking
Until I lie in stone
Sleep walking
Sleep walking
Sleep walking
I’m sleepwalking
When bindweed chokes and they’ve laid me in
I won’t forget you my King

I will come
Sleep walking
Sleep walking
Sleep walking
I’m sleepwalking

about

Rayys London, UK

Rayys makes lofi, psych folk for nature lovers and tree huggers.

Her life changed when her father unexpectedly inherited an 18th century Gothic folly situated on the lakeland shores that inspired Wordsworth's sonnets. She is inspired by these poetic surroundings and the big crumbling house, a former hunting lodge with dead beasts adorning the walls and family secrets hidden in dark corners. ... more
